I was a patient of Dr. Guy$0027s for many years as a kid, so I thought i would continue to go to him as an adult. When I had a toothache over the weekend and tried calling Dr. Guy$0027s office first thing Monday morning. No one answered the phone, so I left a message. Dr. Guy is the best dentist I$0027ve ever been to! He, along with his wonderful staff, made me feel so comfortable and at ease. They even let my boyfriend come in the room with me! I$0027ve never been a fan of dentist visits but Dr. Guy definitely made it a lot less terrifying. 🙂

I went into Athens Smile a week ago to receive a routine dental check up. I was brought into an outdated room by a dental hygienist and made to sit in a dirty chair that was covered in duct tape and tears. I spoke to the hygienist about some canker sores I had been having in my mouth recently, likely brought on by the stress of exams (I$0027m a student at UGA). When the hygienist took a look in my mouth, she excused herself and left the room for approximately 15 minutes. When she returned she bluntly «diagnosed» me with Oral Herpes, and said that I «needed to be careful», apparently assuming that I was a promiscuous college student rather than simply stressed out with a canker sore. It should be noted that dental hygienists are not legally allowed to make a diagnosis, which apparently Rebecca did not know. She further elaborated that she also could not treat me because she had a newborn child, which I felt was a very unprofessional thing to mention. I left the dental office humiliated and having never seen Dr. Guy. I immediately went to a nearby Urgent Care to have a complete STD screening for my own sense of mind. The doctor who examined me said that it was almost certainly a canker sore, and this was further confirmed by further lab screenings which said that I did not have Oral Herpes (or any other STD for that matter).
To summarize my experience at Athens Smile, I was denied treatment on the misinformed, illegal diagnosis of a very rude and unprofessional dental hygienist. I was accused of having an STD, and was never seen by the the Dentist who could have easily confirmed I merely had a canker sore. Visit at your own risk.
