This was my first time going to a dentist in 3 years! Ive had very bad and very good experiences in the past. The team at San Mateo Dental Care exceeded my expectations. They were very covid conscious and made me feel safe the entire time. They were very thorough with my X-rays and cleaning. When he was able to open back up I was immediately informed and I found the office to be already updated with negative air pressure system, UV lighting and all the up to date PPE equipment and strict health care procedures. I am so fortunate to have found Dr Belen and his team. I$0027ve been his patient for over 6 years now and prior to that spent several decades with subpar care even though I was supposedly with the best in the areas I lived (DC, Miami, NYC).

After the covid lockdown, I was due for a dental appointment and mind you
I was so much under stress thinking about how safe it will be to go back to doctor and dental appointments. I wanted to know what safety precautions my dentist would have implemented as he started to open up again. I am very, very well pleased. Dr. Belen and staff have taken so many precautionary measures to make their patients safe. I had to ask before I went to my next visit. Aside from their usual OSHA measures, here are the things that they have added for covid protection that I had observed (and I was curiously asking too. Im paranoid).
1) They have implemented a new process where patients will wait in their automobiles and wait for a text from the office. The wait was not long at all.
2) Then a staff asked the usual questions that medical/dental offices are required to ask (similar to the time of ebola).
3) Then the same staff took my temperature and then escorted me directly to the dental chair. No more waiting room waits. I was asked to keep my mask on until it was time for my procedure. I also noticed that Dr. Belen and staff had double masks now and face shield.
4) I was asked to rinse my mouth first with diluted hydrogen peroxide to reduce contaminants coming out of ones mouth.
5) Each room (opertory) is equipped with a hepa filter (the same filter that can be found in airplanes).
6) But they did not stop there. Each opertory is also equipped with negative pressure system (the same system found in hospital settings). This was very important to me because I dont think that circulating the air within the office via hepa filter is sufficient.
7) Each opertory is also equipped with a high volume external vacuum that sits in front of the patient$0027s face during procedure that suctions any aerosol coming out of one$0027s mouth.
8) Each opertory is also equipped with UV lighting. UV lighting helps disinfect every inch in the room in a matter of seconds and they do this after each patient leaves the room.
9) Then they implemented a separate entrance and separate exit to make sure that patients do not run into each other.
Amazing! My procedure went well as usual and I felt so comfortable knowing that all possible safety measures were taken by this dental office. My hats off to Dr. Belen and staff. Ill see you at my next appointment.

I just started going to see Dr. Belen as a new patient with a lot of dental work to get done! Entire staff is extremely helpful, sweet, and friendly. One of the doctors even provided me with her iPod to listen to while getting anesthesia. Dr. Belen and his staff are extremely THOROUGH.. that is probably the thing I liked the best. They explained important things to me that previous dentists had only touched on–things that I absolutely need to know for my health. These are simply amazing caring people and I hope to come back even though I am moving to San Diego! Me and my friend are travelers from austria and one of us actually needed a root canal, but we were a little bit overwhelmbed by the insurance system in america. So the doctor and his assistent Christy really figured something out for us and really cared about us. We felt really comfortable and after some calls and considering, we made the right decision and got a really good treatment.
